▨ THE VIDETTE ↝ EDITORIAL ILLUSTRATIONS

Through my internship at The Vidette, an Illinois State University based publication, I explored editorial illustration and crafted visual companions for narratives created by talented staff writers. My time at The Vidette gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in a unique mode of visual storytelling, as well as problem-solve working under tight deadlines. News is a speedy process. Occasionally projects were due within the day. So, my goal was to find a creation method that matched that fast paced environment. I took inspiration from the approach of VOX Media, and I studied the designer Christina Animashaun and her ability to seamlessly blend digital collage with written content. This internship enabled my illustrative style, and allowed me to experiment with a media that I didn’t normally touch at the time: collage. Through this internship I learned the crucial importance of collaboration and communication in design.
